So here we are.. first non-website related blog post so I guess I'm just going to type to get things off my mind XD

Yesterday was stocktake day at work.

If you're unfamiliar with what that entails, it's basically where you count every single item in your shop to update/correct your stockfile and let the company know what you've lost over the year (it's a once a year activity, at least where I work)

We decide each time to do it overnight when the store is shut. This helps in two ways:

  1. you don't have people interrupting you when you're trying to count
  2. if people are buying things in the middle of your count, it messes it up because you may have already counted it but it's not there anymore

This is my third year in a row doing it. First year, it was me and one other person doing it on sheets of paper, tallying each item (which is the way the company expects you do it, mind-blowingly). It took us until about 7 AM to do the whole process.

Second year I did it ON MY OWN but I came up with a new (unofficial) system of using a Bluetooth handheld barcode scanner and an app on an iPhone to keep track of the counting. All you gotta do is scan every item with the scanner to count it all up. Way quicker than rifling through sheets to mark down each item you find. It took me until about 11 AM (working overnight) to do the whole process. It took me longer because even though it was quicker to scan the items, I was on my own doing it and also putting all the data in at the end took foreverrrrrr.

This year, there was two of us both with scanners and iPhones. We finished the whole process by 4 AM. Quickest attempt by far. Turns out two people using the scanners beats two people having to tally out items on sheets, and also one person doing it all on their own. Who knew.

Anyways, it was still a mindbendingly long process, taking 13 hours total - got to work 3 PM Sunday and didn't get out til 4 AM Monday. Got home for 5 AM and fell straight asleep, not waking up til 2 PM... and even though I got loads of sleep the whole things got me feeling out of whack lol.

Oh well. Back in work tomorrow D':

At least today I got some work in on the website XD Yeah we still came back to it lol

Today I added a favicon, Added a lil section at the top of the page that tells you why my page is called conkernaut (my parents called me Conker as a kid and idk, whilst I never wanted to be an astronaut I thought it sounded cool when trying to come up with a username haha) and I also added a visitor counter. It does analytics too and idk if it's just a bot visiting, but it looks like I've had a visitor from the US! Welcome! <3

My music page currently has a section that shows what I'm listening to. I've been updating it manaully which sucks but I'm trying to get a Last.fm scrobbling widget working. I've got it working in a test HTML document, I'm just trying to see if I can style it to fit my sidebar well lol.

Anyways, I think that's it for this time. If it's not too conflicting I hope to use this blog both as a diary and also to write up eassys of sorts about topics and interests. Next time (might) be something more like that. We'll see lol.

Bye for now <3
