Welp, here we are!
This Zonelets thing is pretty neat... A static blog platform that doesn't need you to know how to write Markdown or use node.js 🙈
Yes I know those are things I should work at but this is easier lol
I was gonna try and roll my own blog system by just... making new pages on the site each time I wanted a new blog post but that seemed kind of awful.
If I were to have done that, tweaking the overall look of the site later would have required changing a loooot of pages.
In fairness, I keep my CSS in its own stylesheet and my navbar is pulled in from a separate file via JavaScript (in case I decide to add a new top level page down the line) but if I ever want to properly redesign my site, I'd rather the blog were a separate entity than having to go in and tweak all those separate pages to match the new look. At least this way the blog is entirely distinct from the design of the site.
I'm not totally in love with this theme, but the whole thing is CSS/HTML/JS so I can play with it if I like.
I was looking into things like 11ty and I'll be honest... just setting them up was making my head spin. Kind of embarrasing but I'm not afraid to admit it xD
What you see on this site (at least at the time of writing this blog post) was accomplished in one day and my head is kind of spinning in general tbh - I'm not really a programmer or anything, so I've kind of hacked together everything on here from code snippets and the bits I have picked up over the years.
It's pretty basic, but I'm happy enough with it so far!
This blog going forwards isn't going to be specifically about the meta of this site - it's going to be about all sorts of random musings that occur to me. This is just what's on my mind at the moment lol.
Anyways, til the next time, onward and upwards...
